Dark Horses in Malta

No, we’re not suggesting you get down to the racecourse in Marsa, because it’s too sweltering hot. But you may wish to check out the Dark Horses gig on 28th July in Floriana organised by our friends at Kinemastik and StageDive.

The promo for the leather-clad, Brighton-based band, led by Lisa Elle, says they’re “neo rock ‘n roll,” whatever that means. To us, they sound like Siouxsie meets Radiohead meets Mazz Starr on a good day. Live, their songs are either pulsating and upbeat or slow-mo. The guitars are dirty and loud, or gentle and soft. Dark Horses are produced by Richard Fearless, Death In Vegas’s main man – and you can certainly hear something of DIV in their sound. Check out the video below. It’s deliciously atmospheric with layered breathy voices and some wonderful squalling feedback at the end which made my son do an impromptu air guitar.

Support for Dark Horses will be provided by multi-instrumentalist and electronic wizard Capitol K (Kristian Craig Robinson), and electronic band, Dolls For Idols. Earlier this year Dolls For Idols played a 15-date tour of Europe, in support of the release of their debut album “Cut, Paste and Rave ‘n’ Roll”, culminating in an appearance at the Europavox festival in France.

Early bird tickets cost just 10 euro and are available from St. James Cavalier or online. For the latest on the event, you can stay in touch on Facebook. If you have any queries, just email kinemastik@gmail.com or call 99242815.

Here’s a map to help you get to the venue.
