Classic rock at its best, and now a calendar event in Malta

Here are three music events that will rock anyone’s stay in Malta this summer. We’ve chosen unique events to suit a variety of tastes, and ones that cover June, July and September – well, everyone’s on shutdown in Malta in August! Bar us, that is!

1. Battle of the Bands at Rookie’s Sports Bar, Bugibba
This bar has been promoting local talent for the past decade or so, and the ‘Battle of the Bands’ is a highlight in its calender not to be missed. This particular ‘battle’ is held twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays) until end June. For more info, click here.

2. Porn – The Musical at Argotti Gardens, Floriana
Performed for the first time in March 2009, this unique rock musical is repeated in July at the Argotti Gardens in Floriana. The story is about a Maltese chap who goes to America; suffice to say that it ends up being quite an X-rated adventure. Obviously not for minors. More information about the musical here: www.thepornmusical.com.

3. The National Philarmonic Orchestra goes Rockestra at MFCC, Ta’ Qali
A philharmonic orchestra playing rock music is always fun. This concert is held on 12 September at the Ta’ Qali, MFCC, and includes music by the likes of Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Deep Purple. Profits go to the Malta Community Chest Fund, a local philanthropic body. More information can be found at rockestra.org.
